Corrupt windows profile (damaged profile) on windows vista and newer how to fix and redo

Sometimes you have a profile in windows that just will not work, apps do not work correctly, the profile hangs at logon, or various other funky things. Or even worse, it has a virus lurking in it that AV will not remove correctly.

These are the steps to create a new profile that hopefully will work correctly.

make sure you have another local admin account
reboot the computer
log in with the other local admin account
go to c:\users
rename the problem profile to something else
run regedit
navigate to :“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList”
scan the profiles in there to fine the problem profile
delete the profile
exit regedit
log in to the computer now via RDP or the local desktop as the problem profile, this will build a brand new profile
move my documents and desktop and other items back
delete old bad profile
hopefully this fixes your issue, otherwise you may have malware or windows corruption or a hardware issue.
